‘Good in Your Skin’
Bienvenue and welcome to Authentically Femme!
This is the first official blog post for Authentically Femme, a project I’ve been developing for quite some time now, but which took an unexpected detour with the arrival of Covid. I trust I’m not the only one out there whose 2020 looked nothing like they’d imagined!
With brighter days on the near horizon, I’m inspired to pick up where I left off with the hope of providing inspiring, relevant, fun and informative content to help you create and live your most authentically stylish life. For many women, (it’s certainly true for me), mid-life is a time of reassessing priorities, coming to grips with the psychological and physical effects of aging, and trying to relinquish the mostly unrealistic standards we impose on ourselves to remain that ‘younger woman’ we see in our mind’s eye: more attractive, sexier, thinner, more successful, fewer wrinkles…In a culture where youth and beauty are celebrated and coveted, it can feel like our ship has already sailed, and we ask ourselves, ‘what’s the point anyway?’
The reality is that this is Life, and IT happens to everyone.
I’m both American and French and I’ve lived for many years in both the Unites States and France. This has given me a somewhat different perspective and insight into how women from these two cultures regard and experience aging. I’m not saying that French women don’t also struggle with this challenge, but the French culture is more forgiving and generous. With age comes life experience and wisdom, and a stronger sense of one’s self. It’s very seductive. Think of a fine wine, which is even more delicious and desirable when given the time to age properly!
Several years ago I became a Certified Style Coach, and my passion is helping women discover and develop their authentic personal style, in all areas of their lives. It’s not just about outward appearance, but the environment we create around us and the lifestyle choices we make. For many of us over fifty we recognize that we are now entering our next chapter, and we want to feel beautiful, empowered, confident and excited about the rest of our lives. This is such an important and pivotal time for women, and what’s truly liberating is that now we’re old enough to let go of so much of the superficial baggage we’ve been carrying around, and instead ask ourselves, ‘What do I want in this new phase of my life? How do I want to show up everyday? How can I develop my full potential and be all that I know I was meant to be?’ Authentic style is powerful and transformative, and the confidence a women experiences when she truly feels good in her skin, or as we say in French ‘bien dans sa peau’, impacts every aspect of her life.
My personal saying is that feeling and looking beautiful is not just for a special occasion. Life is the special occasion! I’m excited to be on this journey with you. If there are any subjects relating to style, beauty and lifestyle that are of special interest to you, please let me know!
